ALPHA RECAP

So we hit alpha today (woo) and there's major news. So everything was going well, the feedback was nice and people seemed to really enjoy the game. But the programmer accidentally left in a debug button that would switch the camera to first person... After a teacher found this and started playing in first person, it was clear that the game became five times more fun to them. We got many people to play it for the rest of the day and asked them to try it in top down and first person. Almost everyone said that they found first person way more fun, and it felt easier and smoother to drive and play.

So after that news our game is now first person.

This changes a bit of our pipeline as we were leaning our game to be viewed from top down, but were not gonna choose the boring option over the clearly fun option!!! The artists will have to pay more attention to detail now that the camera is closer, and won't have to worry about set dressing roofs and other out of sight places. Another tip was now that the game is first person, we should implement verticality into the level design, so include ramps, tunnels, etc.

The programmer is viewing the game from a different angle, and has done things like implement the GUI into the HUD of the car (with the assistance of one of our artists).

Metal Mash is coming along and it's good to see people enjoying it more!
